Barbara Leah Meyer and Jan Randall are a Canadian musical partnership bringing together sophisticated jazz vocals, expressive piano, original songs, storytelling, humour and a healthy dose of musical mischief.
With Barbara’s extensive European performance history and Jan’s background as a pianist, composer, songwriter, arranger and musical director, they offer a flexible live performance that can range from an intimate piano-and-voice evening to a larger concert production.

Barbara’s distinctive jazz vocals meet Jan’s expressive piano in an intimate evening of jazz, swing, blues and great songs.
The repertoire can draw from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards and blues, with stories, humour and improvisation woven naturally into the performance.
This is a warm, sophisticated and highly adaptable program that works particularly well in intimate rooms where the audience can connect directly with the performers.

Jan Randall — Original Songs
Jan’s original music moves between jazz, blues, humour and heartfelt storytelling.
These are songs about love, loss, life, absurdity and the strange places the human heart can sometimes take us.
Performed at the piano, Jan’s songs are accompanied by stories and observations that can be as entertaining as the music itself. The result is an intimate, sometimes poignant and often humorous evening of original music.

A larger-scale concert concept drawing on Barbara’s experience performing with orchestras and Jan’s background in composition, arranging and musical direction.
The program can move from Broadway and jazz repertoire to original music, storytelling and improvisation — and can be expanded with additional musicians, local artists, ensembles or orchestra.
Barbara has performed with orchestras including the Baden-Badener Philharmonie, European Philharmonia Baden-Baden and Philharmonie Südwestfalen, bringing a wealth of experience in large-scale concert settings.

BARBARA LEAH MEYER
Barbara is an accomplished jazz vocalist with a long history of performing in Germany and throughout Europe.
Her European career has included major jazz festivals, concert halls, jazz clubs and performances with professional orchestras and ensembles. She recorded Broadway Symphony with the Baden-Badener Philharmonie and has released seven albums.
Barbara speaks fluent German and has maintained strong musical relationships in Germany and Europe over many years.
JAN RANDALL
Jan Randall is a Canadian pianist, composer and songwriter whose musical life has moved freely between jazz, theatre, television, composition, arranging, original songs and live performance.
His music combines bluesy and jazzy piano with memorable melodies, humour and storytelling.
Jan’s career has included more than 50 theatre productions as composer and bandleader, work as Music Director for Second City, collaborations with SCTV performers, and music for CBC, NFB and Discovery Channel productions.
His original music ranges from heartfelt songs about love and loss to songs that deliberately bend the rules — roguish songs from the heart.

Barbara and Jan will be travelling through Europe in autumn 2026, with opportunities for performances and collaborations along the way.

Vienna — October 22–27
Munich — October 28–November 1
Northern Germany — November 2–9
They are interested in concerts, festivals, guest appearances, collaborations with local musicians, cultural events and other suitable performance opportunities during this journey.
RETURNING TO CANADA
After November 12, 2026, Barbara and Jan will be seeking performance opportunities in British Columbia and Alberta, while also welcoming invitations from presenters, festivals, concert series and venues elsewhere in Canada where travel costs can be accommodated.
A MUSICAL CONNECTION TO EUROPE
Jan’s connection to European musical traditions goes back to his studies at the University of Alberta, where his composition professor was the distinguished Canadian composer Violet Archer, who studied with Béla Bartók.
For Jan, returning to Europe therefore has a personal musical significance as well as being an opportunity to perform and reconnect with European musicians and audiences.
